Buckminster Fuller in Front of Dome

 

(notes taken from the architecture of eden) pg . 20 – Both Nick Grimshaw and Tony Hunt were lifelong admirers of the american engineer, designer and ‘Spaceship Earth’ philosopher Richard Buckmister FUller (1895 – 1983). Fuller had , in the 1940s, developed the geodesic dome in search for the most minimal form of large enclosure possible. His united States Pavilions at Expo ’67 in Montreal (the year Grimshaw first started in architectural practice) was his largest-scale realization of the geodesic principle.
